CIBIL Score
What it means
A CIBIL score is generated by TransUnion CIBIL, one of India's four credit bureaus, from the repayment records that banks and NBFCs report every month. It ranges from 300 to 900; most lenders treat 750 and above as excellent, 700 to 749 as good, 650 to 699 as fair, and below 650 as needing improvement.
Lenders use the score alongside the full credit report, which shows every account, its limit, balance and payment history, the number of recent enquiries, and any settled or written-off accounts. A high score earns lower interest rates and faster approvals; a low score narrows the lender set and raises pricing.
You can check your score free once a year from each bureau. Checking your own score is a soft enquiry and does not affect it.
