Glossary
LTV (Loan to Value Ratio)
What it means
LTV caps how much a lender will fund against an asset. For home loans, RBI permits up to 90% for loans up to ₹30 lakh, 80% up to ₹75 lakh and 75% above that. Loans against property run 50% to 70%, gold loans up to 75%, and car loans 80% to 100% of on-road or ex-showroom price.
The remaining share is your own contribution or margin. A lower LTV often earns a better rate because the lender's risk is lower.
