Moratorium
What it means
Education loans provide a moratorium covering the course period plus six to twelve months, after which repayment begins. Interest accrues during the moratorium; paying it as it accrues reduces the total cost. Under-construction home loans have a pre-EMI phase where only interest on disbursed amounts is paid.
A moratorium is not a waiver; the total interest paid is higher than on a loan that repays from the start.
